My name is Carolyn Hirst and Hirstworks is my independent consultancy. I am self-employed and have worked as a consultant since 2007. I specialise in work to do with conflict prevention, management and resolution.

My work background is in housing, health and social care. I worked in the public sector for 25 years, including a five-year term as a Deputy Scottish Public Services Ombudsman. I am also an experienced Non Executive Director. I am a Scottish Mediation Registered Mediator SMR logo and a Visiting Lecturer at Queen Margaret University. I am also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).

My recent work includes complaint investigations and reviews, independent workplace and governing body investigations, the facilitation and mediation of individual and team disputes, and the design and delivery of training courses on Ombudsman and complaint handling practice. I have been described as being a clear thinker, articulate and outcome-orientated. I have also been described as astute, with sound judgement and excellent political awareness. Feedback from recent training course participants include ‘The tutor was great at conveying her vast experience and knowledge’ and ‘This is the best training course I have ever been on’.

My base is in Scotland and I work throughout the UK and Ireland. I work on an individual basis and in partnership with valued others, such as Paton Independent, Mediation Scotland and InPsych.
